Figure. 1.  SIVA Nanites, Destiny News Hub (2020).

Rise of Iron was the last expansion for Destiny 1, the expansion’s story greatly expanded the lore of the Iron Lords, introducing SIVA nanites to games world, along with fallen splicers from the house of devils.  These splicers discovered a sealed off replication facility containing the SIVA, which they used to enhance themselves.  With the introduction of SIVA, Destiny opened up possibilities that were not fully realised or utilised (outside of the wrath of machine raid).  While smaller than prior expansions, the destiny community’s reception to Destiny 1’s Rise of Iron expansion was overwhelmingly positive, the expansion brought in fan favourite exotics, weapons, strikes and a Raid that is still regarded as one of the best (if not the best) raids in Destiny history.

Another expansion, Shadowkeep’s season of the worthy, introduced the Warminds (in this case the Warmind Rasputin).  SIVA much like Rasputin was a Clovis Bray project headed by Wilhelmina Bray its goal was to tool to accelerate humanity colony growth, however as the collapse prior to its integration into potential colonies it went into hibernation.  After being reawakened by the iron lords Rasputin sent out a command to them: Consume, Enhance, Replicate.  This expansion brought several key mechanics centred around the Warmind mods for the end game meta, specially, Warmind cells, and Warmind cell mods.

Considering Rise of Iron’s popularity, and the ideas both it and season of the worthy introduced, it makes sense to explore the ideas introduced a little further in their own season, with a heavy focus on Siva.  This Siva season would introduce many new aspects to destiny, mechanically, narratively, and gameplay (meta focused).  However, this document will only cover the singular game mode to be introduced within this hypothetical season of Destiny, a PvE mode.  This would be part of the Community collaborative effort #SeasonOfThePlague (a pre-existing event created by the destiny community).

Goals

  • To add a Gameplay Mode to a hypothetical season of destiny

Narrative

Recent Vex simulations brought on new findings around a series of SIVA stores around the system within Exodus ships, from this both House Salvation and the mysterious Psion group known as the Conclave, led by Valus Enoren the Ever Watching have tapped into the Vex prediction engine located on Nessus and seek to claim or reclaim the lost power of Humanities Gold Age.

The Goal of the Guardians during this seasonal activity is to purge the Exodus’s bays of SIVA remnants and help Rasputin’s sub minds take back control of SIVA outbreak from enemy factions.

The enemy factions Involved

Vex –The instigators for the SIVA outbreak, the Vex seek one thing: to become a fundamental rule of the Universe, SIVA is just one step towards that.  With SIVA’s limitless potential for reformatting matter the Vex seek to gain a tool to accelerate their plans for universal mastery.

Fallen - House Salvation splinter group using their ex-house of Devils knowledge.  These House of Salvation remnants are still loyal to Eramis and desire to take revenge by reacting an old plan of Eramis, hunting down SIVA to become demigods alongside their Darkness powers.

Cabal of Valus Enoren the Ever Watching- With the truce between Caital and the Guardians now in operation, the Conclave is seeking any advantage they can use to get the upper hand, whether that be restructuring Caital’s empire from within or dismantling the Guardian forces.

Game mode: Containment

Location Setting:

The SIVA outbreak is located at the crash site of one of the Exodus Black’s shuttle that crashed just south of the Artifact’s Edge. Currently the space goes unused and as such is taking up valuable space within the files, so why not make use of it.  During the season of the forge, it will provide fun and chaotic gameplay opportunities within this space.  With this new game mode, the space may once again be used to its true potential.

Game mode, Gameplay Walkthrough:

  • SIVA has constructed “thermal vents” very much like their dee sea counterparts (see Figure. 3.).

  • These vents spew out a debuff to players who do not have the correct SIVA root access node.

  • Root access node takes the form of a pickup (like operator within DSC) from specific ‘Nanite hoarders’: unstoppable champion enemies that drop the pickup upon death.

  • Last area is a diamond shaped zone where the players corral their SIVA collections.

  • The player’s goal is to disable these vents and contain the SIVA by destroying a requisite amount of SIVA infused enemies.

Accessing the game mode:

  • The game mode is assessed through the vanguard playlist (see Fig. N.) or in the Nessus overworld (see Fig. N.), much like with the season of the chosen’s proving grounds mode.

  • The Vanguard menu opens, and the Player will see 5 options Battles, Nightfall, Grandmaster Nightfall, Vanguard Strikes, and the game mode that is introduced in this new season (Season of the Plague), Containment.

  • Once the player selects Containment the player will have accessed the mode and be entered in to a PvE 4-man matchmade group.

How it works:

First step:

After matchmaking, players will enter the Artefact’s edge, moving to the south side they will the plague zone (Unique to the Containment game mode). Upon entering they will encounter Siva constructed wall, this will be guarded by a Vex barrier champion.

Figure. 6.  Destiny 2 (2017).

The players must cut though this SIVA construct wall using a SIVA root access node (a small cube shaped device an analogue of the motes of darkness/light), this SIVA root access node is a pickup gained by killing a Vex Barrier champion.  Taking the node and entering it into a SIVA covered terminal (at the back of area one of the crashed Exodus Black shuttle craft at the south end of Artifact’s edge) will destroy the SIVA walls and allow the players to move onto the next area.

Second step:

Entering the next area, players will encounter four vent pillars constructed by SIVA. These vents spew clouds of SIVA nanites that inflict debuffs to players without a SIVA root access node.  This is a timed section, lasting around 10 minutes, tracking player progress by number of SIVA towers deactivated, the towers are deactivated with the very same SIVA root access nodes as used on SIVA terminal, three nodes required to decrypt and disarm each tower.  Any additionally disarmed vents increase reward rates for legendary or above loot.  Unstoppable Cabal champions, Overload Champions, Barrier Champions, and minor enemies (Vex, Fallen and Cabal) will spawn as soon as the countdown begins.  Kills on minor enemies (Ads) grant an additional 2 seconds to the timer and kills on champions will provide SIVA root access nodes.

After the timer has ended, and the minimum required amount of SIVA towers are deactivated, either a Cabal Psion Flayer (Voamec), Vex Keymind (Epiphany Mind, Hydra), or Fallen Lieutenant (Alrak, Salvation Elite), empowered by SIVA (Communicated to the player by SIVA clouds flying around it) will spawn.

However, If the players fail to deactivate enough towers within the time limit, the players will all die and must try this step again.

Cabal: Psion Flayer, has an augmented gravitation grenade that instead of lifting the player, instead deploys a roving damage over time swarm of SIVA that the players can shoot and kill.

Third step:

Entering this step, players will be required to defeat a one of three enhanced bosses, Alrak, Voamec, and Epiphany Mind (see further details in Boss Details).

This third step consists of three phases (over which the boss will continually attack the players): First, players will need to defeat four Nanite custodians, upon death of these custodians will drop a Nanite Cluster.  Second, players will take these dropped Nanite Clusters and disperse them using the newly disarmed SIVA vents, this will concentrate the clusters and charge them critical mass. These critical mass Nanites can then be thrown at swarm cloud surrounding the boss, upon impact they will detonate destroying the bosses SIVA swarm shield, this will allow the players to attack the boss directly, and eventually kill it.

Once the boss has been defeated, the mode will, and rewards will be given out by a central chest.
